Published in 1982 by the Culpeper Historical Society, Inc., is Culpeper County's first history. Its 516 pages include 16 pages of illustrations; its 38 readable chapters include fully documented information on Indians and early settlements in the area, the county's churches, the Culpeper Minutemen, education, medicine, agriculture, transportation, black history, Civil War battles ( Cedar Mountain, Kelly's Ford, Brandy Station)and skirmishes, and towns, villages and post offices. Names of people abound in the text and extensive footnotes. The 51-page index and list of sources are aids to researchers.
